Novosibirsk Philharmonic Concert Hall is a unique project for GLASSBEL team. Professional solutions for glazing allowed not only to realize the ambitious idea of the architect, but also to provide the specified levels of performance, to create a comfortable and economical building, according to global standards.
According to the architectural ideas of the facade, the main requirement to the glazing was saturated blue color of it. Glass with solar control coating, offered by us, met this requirement, while having good performance characteristics. Our specialists calculated the loads in a special program set Mepla, the results of which determined the optimal formula of such a large IGU used in structural glazing: 8 mm Float_0, 76 PVB_8 mm Cool-Lite STB # 136 4 - 16 mm Argon - 8 mm Clima Guard DT # 5_0 , 76 PVB_8 mm Float. To ensure the highest energy saving properties insulating of IGU with argon and low-E glass in the inner part of triplex were applied.
The proposed formula met all the requirements of the project: architectural design (color, large size, structural glazing), performance (sun - and heat-protection) and given budget.
Chosen outer glass has a high absorption of solar energy. Traditionally, it is believed that there is high risk of thermal stress for this glass, and tempering is recommended in this case. But the dimensions of these IGUs by the arc length and height were the maximum possible in the world today and they could be only produced using raw glass.
To solve this challenging technical problem our R&D department made calculation of thermal stress probability taking into account the individual characteristics of the geographical location of the building. Results of this calculation showed that the probability of thermal stress is minimal in such confluence of external factors.
The next step in the search of technological solutions became final life-size mock-up, which successful testing confirmed the correctness of the chosen solutions. This mock-up became the world's first curved IGU of such size: 5880 × 2100 mm.
